intressant artikel om open hardware

Von Hippel predicts a gradual shift in many industries. Eventually, he says, companies that make such things as high-tech devices and mountain bikes will no longer design their products; instead, the people who use the products will design their own. For example, companies that currently design machines for Boeing might still provide the materials and manufacture the machines, but engineers at Boeing will design the machines themselves, since they best understand how they’ll need to use them. ”I see open-source solutions increasing their hold in many more fields and being empowering for us all,” Von Hippel says. As people who use the products, ”we’ll get more of what we want and be able to participate in design much more. Manufacturers will go to becoming foundries that produce what users design.”

Ok, både Make och Hack a Day har redan skrivit om den här artikeln, men alla kanske inte läser de bloggarna och det var en intressant artikel om hur framtiden kan se ut om vi har tur.

Några projekt som nämns är:

Adafruit industries, Limor Frieds företag som säljer många roliga elektronik-kit, de flesta designade av henne själv.
Instructables, mycket bra hemsida där folk kan lägga upp ”howtoos” om allt mellan hur man gör den godaste chokladsåsen, till hur man bygger robotar.

Det finns mycket mer intressant inom open(-source) hardware, men nu orkar jag inte skriva mer, jag kan ge några sökord för den som vill hitta mer;

arduino, chumby, reprap, fab@home, openmoko, openpandora (beroende på hur man definierar open hardware), monome

och slutligen så verkar den engelska wikipedia artikeln i ämnet vara intressant, jag har dock inte läst hela än.
